Denver Office of Sustainability
Sustainability Strategist
Denver, CO
Sonrisa is the Sustainability Strategist in the Office of Sustainability for the City and County of Denver. She works to establish sustainability as a core business value for the City and engage community partners to instill it as a public value. This involves engaging others in the City to transform the typical ways in which projects and processes in the city are analyzed, valuated, and funded. It also involves partnering with leaders in the community to achieve each of the city’s 2020 Sustainability Goals. A Sustainability Engineer with over eleven years of experience, Sonrisa brings with her a deep knowledge of energy resources and all facets of sustainable buildings and their impact on the natural and built environment. She has leveraged this experience in the City to assist with the development of the citywide sustainability policy for City assets and operations, updating of the city’s building codes, the implementation of the benchmarking and transparency ordinance for existing commercial buildings, the development and adoption of commercial PACE to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy for commercial buildings and to evaluate the upgrade of city streetlights to LED. Sonrisa is a graduate of Stanford University with a self-designed degree combining energy resources, policy and economics in the School of Engineering. She is also a Denver native and is passionate about the outdoors and traveling. She lives with her amazing wife Cristina and their sweet dog Luna.
